"Jim, Your Dad Loaded This Log onto the Trucks"
Harold Smith (James' father) was a Log Loader at Copper Canyon for many years. Credit would need to be given to many individuals for getting this log to the woods to the beach.
The Log was destined for Kew Gardens, London England to replace a flagpole for the King in about 1919 ???
My Mom at the Flagpole in 1991.
I have included a later picture, Circa 1960s of one of the said Loaders. These machines were converted from Grade Shovels to Log Loaders . They are called "Shovel Loaders" for this reason . This first happened at Copper Canyon in about 1950. Before that the logs were hooked up with "tongs" , with much human muscle power . Here is a picture of my brother, myself and a friend on Hayes Logging truck, in 1970.
